Professional Boxing License Criteria & Regulations
General Licensing Requirements (All Applicants)
1 Eligibility Criteria
• Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• Applicants must not have any criminal convictions that could affect their ability to
perform duties professionally.
• All applicants must undergo and pass a background check.
• The applicant must be free from any conflicts of interest within the boxing industry.
2 Medical Examination
• A mandatory medical examination is required for all applicants (especially boxers
and trainers).
• Boxers must undergo specific medical tests, such as neurological, cardiovascular,
and eye examinations.
• Annual physical exams for license renewals are mandatory for boxers, trainers, and
referees.
3 Application Process
• All applicants must submit a completed application form, along with:
• Valid identification.
• Proof of age and nationality.
• Two passport-sized photographs.
• Payment of the applicable license fee.
4 Renewal of License
• Licenses must be renewed annually.
• Renewal applications must be accompanied by an updated medical report for
certain positions (e.g., boxers, referees).
1 Medical Insurance
• All fighters must have valid medical insurance covering injuries sustained during a
fight.
• Promoters are required to ensure that venues have adequate medical facilities
available on-site during events.
2 Liability Insurance
• Promoters, managers, and trainers must carry liability insurance covering potential
claims for accidents or negligence.
1 Mandatory Testing
• All fighters are subject to mandatory drug testing both before and after the fight.
• Random testing throughout the year is required.
2 Banned Substances
• The use of banned substances, as listed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA),
is prohibited.
• Violation of the drug policy will result in the immediate suspension of the fighter’s
license.
3 Penalties for Violations
• First-time violation: 1-year suspension and a fine.
• Second-time violation: 2-year suspension.
• Third-time violation: Permanent revocation of the license.
1 Violations
• Licenses may be suspended or revoked for violating any of the following:
• Engaging in illegal or unethical practices (e.g., fight-fixing, doping).
• Failure to adhere to the governing body’s rules and regulations.
• Conviction of a crime that would negatively affect the individual’s role in the
boxing industry.
2 Appeal Process
• License holders who have had their license suspended or revoked may appeal the
decision.
• Appeals must be submitted in writing within 30 days of the decision.
These rules and regulations are implemented to ensure that only qualified and experienced
individuals are entrusted with critical roles in professional boxing events. The BPBA
reserves the right to amend these rules as necessary to uphold the integrity of the sport.
